The University of North Carolina System-Wide Student Health Insurance Requirement
In August 2009, the UNC Board of Governors approved the implementation of a hard waiver student health insurance requirement on all seventeen 4-year campuses beginning in fall 2010. The term hard waiver means any student meeting three specific criteria is required to show evidence of an existing creditable coverage health insurance policy OR enroll in the UNC system-wide plan. For more information associated with the health insurance requirement use the links below.
Students need to verify their insurance policy information each semester using the online verification page.
Pearce and Pearce will verify the students who submitted waivers for the Fall Semester and will be contacted by email as to the status of their waiver request. In the event a waiver request is denied, Pearce & Pearce will give specific reasons as to why and it will be the responsibility of the student to update their insurance information.
Students who do not provide verifiable health insurance information will be utomatically charged for the premium into the UNC system-wide student health insurance plan offered by Pearce & Pearce and billed $709.00 for the fall semester. In order for the student to receive their insurance ID card, the student will need to go online and create their student account. Proof of insurance must be verified by no later than September 15, 2012 to avoid paying the $709.00 insurance premium. There will be a 2 week appeal period from September 16 -30, 2012. Waiver request after September 30, 2012 will not be considered. Students will be responsible for charges after September 30, 2012.
| Important: Please read the Proposed Notice of Benefits Changes effective August 1, 2012. |
