PAP SMEAR
A Pap smear is a screening test to check for abnormalities of the cervix. The test is not a test for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), although some STIs may be checked for at the time the Pap smear is performed.
The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends a Pap smear at age 21.
M.S. Shook Student Health Service does not require a Pap smear to start a birth control method. A clinician will help you determine when you need a Pap smear and how often.
Pap smears are done by appointment only Monday-Friday in the General Health Clinic. There is a $30.00 fee for Pap smears due at the time of appointment.
