COVID-19
If you suspect you have COVID-19 or test positive while at Appalachian State University, follow these steps:
- Recognize Symptoms: Common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, and congestion. If you experience these symptoms, take action promptly.
- Get Tested: To confirm if you have COVID-19, schedule a test with Student Health Services. You can make an appointment by calling 828-262-3100 or by scheduling via MedPortal. You can also order four free at-home COVID-19 tests from COVIDTests.gov.
- Follow Isolation Guidelines: If you test positive for COVID-19, you must isolate yourself from others to prevent the spread of the virus. The CDC recommends isolating for at least five days from the onset of symptoms or the date of the positive test if asymptomatic. After five days, if your symptoms have improved and you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication, you may end isolation but should continue wearing a mask around others for another five days.
- Seek Medical Guidance: If you are experiencing severe symptoms or have concerns about your health, contact a healthcare provider. For vaccination updates or to get a new COVID-19 vaccine, call 828-262-3100.
