Vaccine and Travel Medication List
Health Services offers the vaccines listed below. Students will be informed beforehand of charges for medications and vaccinations that are recommended.
- Hepatitis A (Havrix): 2 shot series; Takes a minimum of 6-months to complete
- Hepatitis B (Engerix B): 3 shot series; Takes a minimum of 6-months to complete
- Japanese Encephalitis
- Meningococcal Vaccine (A,C,W,Y)
- Polio - Injectable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Tetanus Diphtheria (Td)
- Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussin (Tdap)
- Typhoid - Injectable (Typhoid Vi): Good for 2 years
- Typhoid - Oral (Vivotif): Good for 5 years
- Varivax (Chickenpox): 2 shot series; 1 now & 1 in 4-6 weeks
- Yellow Fever: 1 shot; Good for 10-years
- The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended once per lifetime, but this recommendation has not been adopted by ANY country as of 6/1/15
- TB Skin Test (TST): (tests given Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays)
Anti-malarials(Oral)
- Aralen 500mg (Chloroquine): minimum of 6 tablets
- 1 tablet, 1 week before arrival in country, 1 tablet each week of travel stay, and 1 tablet each week for 4 weeks after returning
- Doxycycline
- 1 tablet daily beginning 2 days before arrival in country, 1 tablet each day of travel stay, and continue taking 1 tablet each day for twenty-eight days after returning
- Malarone
- 1 tablet daily beginning 2 days before arrival in country, 1 tablet each day of travel stay, and continue taking 1 tablet each day for 7 days after returning
- Lariam 250mg (Mefloquine)
- This medication is no longer offered through M.S. Shook Student Health Service pharmacy due to potential severe side-effects
